Overview

Students Interested in Pathology (SIP) is a student interest group that is open to undergraduate, graduate, post doctorial and medical students that attend East Carolina University and are interested in careers in Pathology. The SIP group has been in existence since 2006 and has been supported financially by the Department of Pathology and Matching Medical Student Interest Group Matching Grants supported through the Intersociety Council for Pathology Information, Inc. SIP has approximately 26 active members with the majority being Brody School of Medicine M’1’s – M’4’s. The student group elects a president (or co-presidents) that meet prior to the academic year with the Chair to strategically plan their meetings that occur monthly beginning in September through April/May. Pathology Residents and Faculty participate in monthly SIP meetings to present cases and/or to discuss pathology careers and their specialties. The SIP student group is invited to receptions and breakfasts for visiting guests lecturing in the Pathology Grand Rounds Lecture Series as well as the Grand Rounds weekly lectures. SIP students are also invited to at attend departmental webinars. The SIP presidents participate in the Medical Student Fair for incoming Medical Students and share organization information with these students.
